CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Illini Inn is set to reopen in a week.
The bar will have 16 draft beers on tap.
The renovated bar at Fourth and Daniel streets will reopen on Aug. 22.
The business opened as the Midway Cafe in 1960 and then as the Illini Inn in 1970.
The bar was shut down in 2017 for renovations after being purchased a year earlier by Chris Saunders, the News Gazette reports.
Saunders said the bar will have a pub style, keeping a lot of the same traditions, but updating it as well.
He is also keeping the popular mug club. To date, there are 94,283 members.
The process to join: chug a beer, ring a bell, and sign a card.Â
The new bar has a basement, main floor and mezzanine. There is also a new kitchen serving pizza, sandwiches and bar food.
