SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Illinois State Capitol went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
The Secretary of State's Office released the following statement around 2:25 p.m.
“The Secretary of State Police received notice of a threat involving the State Capitol Building. Out of an abundance of caution, the Secretary of State Police issued a building lockdown order and are currently conducting a sweep of the building.”
The lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m. The Secretary of State Police conducted a sweep of the capitol grounds but found no credible threat or imminent danger.
