DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Tuesday is Election Day across Illinois as voters head to the polls to decide who will be on the ballot in November.

Voters will decide from a slew of candidates for federal offices, including the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Dick Durbin.

A number of U.S. House seats are also open due to retirements or current incumbents running for other offices.

Locally, voters will decide on statewide races including gubernatorial candidates, Illinois House and some Illinois Senate seats.

There are sheriff races, county board seats, and other local government races that also need November candidates. Some counties even have ballot questions ranging from school finances, library funding, and mental health boards.

Some races don't have multiple candidates representing multiple parties. In that case, winners in Tuesday's election will likely win in November.

Illinois allows citizens to register to vote on Election Day. Click here to find out how the process works.

Polls are open until 7 p.m. If you're in line when the polls close you will still be permitted to vote.

You can check your polling location here. You don't need a picture ID to vote in Illinois but they can be helpful if there are any issues.

If you have a mail-in ballot you should not put it in the mail. Instead, take it to your county's drop-off location.

Once polls close, you can get election results here.
