SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois Department of Public Health is warning parents and guardians about the recall of a powdered infant formula brand after it was linked to botulism.

IDPH is recommending against the use of ByHeart after two lots of Whole Nutrition Infant Formula were recalled Nov. 8.

The recalled products' lot numbers are as follows, per a release from the IDPH:

  • Lot: 206VABP/251261P2 ("Use by 01 Dec 2026")
  • Lot: 206VABP/251131P2 ("Use by 01 Dec 2026")

IDPH said two Illinois infants with symptoms of botulism both consumed ByHeart formula, a product which has been linked to suspected botulism cases in 10 other states.

The department stated that botulism can cause life-threatening symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness and gastrointestinal issues. Additionally, botulism can be found in foods that often look and taste normal.

Additional information is available on the FDA's website and the CDC's website.
