Interior portion of Danville mall closed due to water damage

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The interior section of the Village Mall is closed indefinitely due to extensive water damage, according to Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.

Williams said stores with exterior entrances at the mall, like Slumberland Furniture, Shoe Sensation and Pet Supplies Plus, are still open.

He said it's "critical" for customers to continue shopping at these stores while the interior section is closed.

The decision to close the interior section was made Wednesday, Williams said, after city officials reached out to the property owner regarding videos of the damage that were circulating online.

City officials did interior inspections of the mall building and recommended that the interior be closed for repairs. Williams said the property owner agreed with the city's recommendation.

It's unknown when the needed repairs will be completed, Williams said.
