STONINGTON, Ill. (WAND) — A Christian County intersection was shut down after a train derailment Sunday night.

It happened at about 8:30 near the intersection of North Main Street and West north Street in Stonington, across from the Casey's gas station. Stonington is about 20 miles southwest of Decatur.

Photos taken at the scene by WAND show two train cars completely off the tracks at around 9:15 p.m. Crews were on scene investigating.

Norfolk Southern told WAND News that three cars derailed, two of which were spilled grain. They said no hazmat materials were spilled, and there was no risk to the public.

The crossing on West North Street was blocked off by the train.

Norfolk Southern did not answer WAND's questions regarding a possible cause of the derailment or whether anyone was hurt.
