SULLIVAN, Ill. (WAND) - Marrowbone Township Supervisor and Moultrie County board member Scott L. Buxton has entered a plea of not guilty after being charged with possession of child pornography.
Buxton entered a not guilty plea in court Friday.
According to the Moultrie County State's Attorney Office, Buxton, 58, of Bethany, was charged on June 26, after Illinois State Police received a cybertip regarding suspicious internet activity linked to a Gmail account and associated IP address to Buxton.
Buxton has served on the Moultrie County Board since December 2022 and was elected to serve as Marrowbone Township Supervisor in April 2025.
During the investigation ISP discovered multiple images depicting child porn among Buxton's online accounts. They also found messages between Buxton and Tyler Scott, 26, formerly of Dalton City, requesting and sharing images and videos of child porn.
Tyler Scott was arrested by ISP on June 25, for offenses including child porn and grooming. Scott is in custody waiting for his next court appearance on June 30, for a preliminary hearing.
The Moultrie County State’s Attorney’s Office recused itself in the case, due to a conflict of interest arising from Buxton serving on the Moultrie County Board.
Jesse Danley, Coles County State’s Attorney, was appointed as a Special Prosecutor to oversee the prosecution of Buxton.
Buxton is due back in court on February 20.
