DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Training thunderstorms occur when multiple storm cells move over the same area in a repetitive manner. They got their name from, well, a train. Much like a boxcar if followed by another boxcar and another boxcar and ... you get the picture. This pattern can lead to excessive rainfall in a short period, significantly increasing the risk of flash flooding. Â
We've had a couple training storm events recently. The most recent was earlier Thursday. The swath of heavy rain from McLean County to northern Edgar County not only produced flooding in areas, but strong winds accompanying the rain created some damage. Â
Additional storms return overnight and for parts of Friday, Friday night into Saturday morning. Unfortunately, additional flooding will take place before a return to high heat. Â
