PARIS, Ill. (WAND) - Paris city officials said the public beach will stay closed until the results of a water sample test.

The City of Paris announced on Friday that it closed its beach after high levels of coliform were detected in the water.

According to the New York State Department of Health, coliform is bacteria present in human and animal waste, along with plant and soil material, and can also include bacteria like E. coli.

It is still unclear what specific bacteria were detected.

The Paris Communications Director told WAND News that the only affected area where swimming is allowed is the east lake side of Twin Lakes Park.

Officials hope to have the results back by Thursday Afternoon or Friday morning.
