(WAND) — Several cities are declaring snow emergencies as a weekend snowstorm sweeps across central Illinois.
The city of Decatur declared a snow emergency effective at 5 p.m. Saturday. Any vehicles parked along designated emergency snow routes need to be moved within 6 hours of the declaration. Violators are subject to fines and towing.
The city of Springfield declared a snow emergency that will start at 7 a.m. Saturday and last until 12 p.m. Monday.
The city said residents are required to remove parked vehicles from designated snow emergency routes so crews can clear the roads. A map of snow emergency routes and the city's snow and ice removal policy can be found on the City of Springfield public works website.
According to a city ordinance, sidewalks next to properties need to be cleared of snow by 10 a.m. each morning following a snow event. Anyone who doesn't clear the sidewalks can be fined $250.
Savoy declared a winter weather emergency effective immediately. During the declaration, no parking is allowed along designated snow routes. The village said it will send out a notice when the declaration is over.
Mt. Zion is declaring a snow emergency effective at 6 p.m. Saturday through 12 p.m. Monday. No parking is allowed on all village streets.
The Mt. Zion Police Department can ticket and tow any vehicle parked on village streets during the snow emergency. Violators will have to pay a $100 parking fine and any fees associated with towing.
The city of Monticello declared a snow emergency effective Saturday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. Parking is prohibited on designated snow routes, but the city said even people who do not live on snow routes should consider not parking in the roadway if possible.

The village of Southern View, a village just south of Springfield, declared a snow emergency effective immediately through Monday. The village ordinance requires all vehicles to be parked off the street so snow plows and emergency vehicles can get through.
The village of Forsyth is under a snow emergency. The village requires all parked vehicles to be removed from the street. Any cars left parked on the street can be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.
The city of Mattoon declared a snow/ice event beginning at 11 p.m. Saturday. Parking is not allowed along snow routes in the city. Parking restrictions in downtown Mattoon will be for non-business hours only.
For non-snow routes, the city of Mattoon said residents who need to park on the street should park on the south and east sides of streets only.
