DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur Fire Department is investigating after a "suspicious" house fire Saturday night.
Firefighters responded to a home near the intersection of North Lake Shore Drive and East William Street Road around 11 p.m.
Crews found heavy smoke and fire inside the home when they arrived.
The department said "extensive overhaul operations" were needed due to the damage from the fire, and crews also had to fight the extreme cold.
According to DFD, the home was being renovated, and nobody was inside at the time of the fire.
The department's fire investigation bureau is currently investigating the fire, and DFD said the cause is believed to be "suspicious in nature."
