PANA, Ill. (WAND) — Pana Junior High School was placed under a soft lockdown Thursday morning after a threatening message was found written in a bathroom stall.
According to the Pana Police Department, officers responded to the school just before 10:30 a.m. after they were notified of a statement found scratched into the plastic toilet paper dispenser in the stall of a girl's bathroom.
Police said the message stated "I have a gun." According to the department, the time-frame in which the statement was scratched is unknown, but it looked to have been done "within the past day or two."
The school was placed under a soft lockdown for the safety of the students and to allow officers time to investigate, police said.
According to the department, a security sweep was done, and the school was deemed safe and returned to normal operations just before 12 p.m.
The incident is still under investigation.
