SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The family of Sonya Massey was joined by attorney Ben Crump and members of the NAACP at a news conference after Massey's funeral on Friday.
Crump revealed shocking details from the body-worn camera footage that won't be released to the public until Monday morning.
"It is a very disturbing video. It is difficult to watch," said Crump. "It will shock America's conscience."
Massey was killed in her home by a Sangamon County Sheriff's deputy on July 6 after making a 911 call. The deputy, Sean P. Grayson, was arrested for murder, and arraigned on Thursday.
The video is equally as disturbing as the audio, according to Crump. He said the names Grayson called Massey were "outrageous on every level," and showed a lack of humanity.
Crump also revealed what were some of Massey's last words. Twice she told Grayson, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus."
Sonya's uncle, Raymond Massey, spoke on behalf of the family. He thanked Illinois State Police for expediting the investigation into the shooting and the Sangamon County State's Attorney for bringing charges against Grayson.
He said Sonya "was a beautiful person" who "spread love."
Footage from the body-worn cameras of the two deputies who responded to the initial 911 call will be released on Monday, July 22 at 10 a.m.
"We promised Sonya Massey's family that we would fight for them to get full justice," said Crump. "Whole justice. Not partial justice, not half justice, not 3/5 justice. The whole justice. We want the same justice that would happen had that been a white mother of two teenagers who called the police."
