VERMILION COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) -Â June 5 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.Â
Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy released a statement recognizing the importance of the day. "I have seen firsthand the devastating impact that violent offenders have on victims, families, and the good People of Vermilion County. National Gun Violence Awareness Day is an opportunity to remember victims and to stand with the families whose lives have been forever changed by tragic loss."Â
Lacy said the day is also a time to recognize the work of law enforcement officers. "Our law enforcement officers have taken a vow to serve and protect the citizens of Vermilion County. We will continue working alongside law enforcement to strengthen public safety," she said.
"As State’s Attorney, my focus is on protecting our community, supporting victims, and holding violent offenders accountable. I would ask all citizens of Vermilion County to please remember, if you see something, say something. Our county deserves justice."Â
