PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) - A jury of 12 and three alternates have been seated in the Sean Grayson murder trial.Â
The Sangamon County State's Attorney and defense attorneys for Grayson worked through the day Monday to find a jury.
The 12-person jury is made up of nine men and three women. 11 of them are white and one is Black. The three alternates include two white men and one white woman.Â
Grayson, a former Sangamon County sheriff's deputy who is white, shot and killed Sonya Massey inside her home after she called 911 in July 2024 to report a prowler.Â

Massey, an unarmed Black woman, was 36 years old when she died.
The trial was moved from Sangamon County to Peoria due to international attention.Â
Her killing was captured on police body camera when Grayson's unnamed partner activated his camera. Her death sparked protests, calls for justice, and impacted change across the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department and other Sangamon County offices.Â
Late Monday, Judge Ryan Cadagin provided jurors with several rules, including social media usage, researching the case, or talking with anyone about the trial.
Tuesday, several motions will be heard in the case regarding evidence and new concerns.Â
Opening statements are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.Â
