DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Limbs falling on power lines during tree trimming are to blame for causing fires and problems at three different Danville homes, the fire department said.

The Danville Fire Department was called out for a report of power lines arching between homes in the 1100 block of Glenwood Dr. Tuesday around 5:20 p.m.

Firefighters noticed a tree branch laying over the power lines behind one home. While moving to the back yard to investigate further, the crew noticed smoke coming from the roof and eaves of the neighboring home.

The incident was elevated to a full alarm assignment and more fire units were called to the scene.

While crews were attending to the fire at 1106 Glenwood Drive, the homeowner at 1108 reported there was a problem in their home as well.

The home's owner described the sound of something exploding. Firefighters checked out their home and found that the water heater, gas line, and furnace had become charged by the electricity and were malfunctioning. Firefighters shut off the gas to the home and set up a hose-line for protection in case a fire sparked.

While firefighters were responding to these two homes, crews learned there was a third incident was reported from 1105 Kohen Drive. Firefighters went to investigate and found insulation in the attic of the home, like what was happening at 1106 Glenwood Drive, was on fire.

Ameren came to the scene and cut power to all the buildings while firefighters extinguished the fires.

Repairs were made to the powerlines by Ameren, and power was restored.

The Danville Fire Department said the incident started from 1101 Kohen Drive, where tree trimming work was being performed. A branch had fallen on the line causing some sort of electrical malfunction within the lines.

Firefighters checked the area residences for any additional problems before clearing the scene around 8:05 p.m.
