DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — At the official two-week mark until the election, Macon County Clerk Josh Tanner said that the county has received over 6,000 early vote ballots and 4,000 mail-in ballots. Tanner said that with 14 days to go, those ballots account for 20% of all the ballots in the county — and there's still time for more.Â
"Early voting definitely picks up in the last two weeks. So we're expecting to vote probably about 500 people a day." said Tanner. In addition to early voting, they are also still awaiting mail-in ballots. "If you've decided who you want to vote for, either get it in the mail or drop it in the dropbox." Tanner explained that the dropbox is open 24/7. "So you really got no reason not to drop it off early and get it done."
Those who haven't requested a mail-in ballot can do so online at the Macon County website. Early voting will run until November 4th — the day before the Election — but Tanner suggests getting early voting done before then. "Don't wait till the last minute. The day before the election day is very busy. So if you're wanting to avoid the lines and early vote, then I suggest sooner is better than later." said Tanner.Â
Macon County is opening their new polling location at 151 West Wood Street for weekend hours the next two weeks, and extending their weekday hours.Â
