DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A Danville man has been arrested after police said he hit a teenager with his car and left the scene.Â
Danville police were called to Bowman Ave. and Crestview Dr. around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.Â
They found a 14-year-old pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Â
Officers learned the driver had fled the scene and was last seen traveling eastbound on Crestview Drive.
Danville police started interviewing a witness and reviewing footage from Flock traffic cameras nearby. DPD identified a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse as the suspect vehicle and got the license plate number registered to the owner.
Officers found the vehicle at a residence in the 100 block of Nicklas Avenue and made contact with the driver, identified as George E. Atkinson a 35-year-old resident of Danville.
Atkinson was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
