MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) - A man is being charged after police said he tried to run down teenagers in his car in Mt. Zion.
18-year-old Treylen Kayhea was arrested Tuesday and preliminarily charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, reckless conduct, and endangering the life of a child.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon in Spitler Woods State Park.
Police said there was a fight between Kayhea and a 16-year-old boy at Huck's in the 100 block of Spitler Park Dr.
Officers said the 16-year-old and four friends, three 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old, had gone to the park after the argument when they encountered Kayhea again.
The 16-year-old and two of his friends walked over to Kayhea's car and asked him if they were going to fight. Police said Kayhea broke a bottle of Red's Apple Ale from which he was drinking and pointed the broken glass at the teen before throwing it at one of his friends.
Police said the teen began hitting Kayhea, who climbed into his car and slammed it into reverse.
Officers said he put the car in drive and tried to ram into the teens. He hit a tree stump and then drove into another tree when he continued to try and hit them, police said.
Before leaving the scene, police said he rammed into the back of a car belonging to one of the 16-year-old's friends before leaving.
Kayhea posted $10,000 bond and is out of jail.
He was ordered to stay away from all of the teenagers and is due in court Oct. 26.
Three other teens were arrested in the incident and charged with mob action.
