A feud between neighbors in Springfield erupts into gunfire, leaving one man dead.

The shooting broke out shortly before 11:00 Monday night in the 1000 block of South Forth Street. The alleged gunman, identified as 25year-old Matthew Edwards drove off from the scene, but was arrested a short time later. Edwards is being held in the Sangamon County Jail on a charge of First Degree Murder.

The victim, 23-year-old George Caples, was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead in the emergency room at St. John's Hospital. Caples was well known in the neighborhood, but witnesses say he had been threatening nearby residents over drug territory for the past several days.

The shooting death of George Caples marks Springfield's fifth murder of the year.
