CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Marching Illini will be headed for the Big Apple to perform in the 100th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade next month.

Director of the Marching Illini, Barry Houser, made the special surprise announcement Tuesday. Working secretly with Macy's Parade staff, school and band leadership surprised students with the news that they were chosen out of more than 100 applicants nationwide. The Marching Illini is one of ten selected marching bands.

The Marching Illini made their Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debut in 2015.
