MCORE construction slowing sales for a local business

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The MCORE construction along Green Street in Champaign began a little over three months ago.

The $44 million project will help improve sidewalks, roads, and lighting along the street.

The closure of the road has caused many problems for one local business. The D.P. Dough store manager, Bryton Carmack,  says that customers have become frustrated with the detour. They have also been struggling with business and getting people to order.

Another major issue is the cut-through traffic. Carmack says, "It's a danger sometimes, these people just fly through like it's a regular street. They just come flying right through. There's people that walk through the parking lot and others that are trying to pull out."

The next phase of the construction work is set to begin on Monday. MCORE directors tell us they are having internal discussions to prepare for the state's decision on a budget. Until then, MCORE will continue their construction as planned.Â
