SPRINGFIELD IL – A ribbon cutting ceremony opened a new playground at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. Â
Â
The play ground was built to honor Tess Drainer, a young girl who was born prematurely at Saint John's hospital in 2005.
Â
Tess and her family stayed at the Ronald McDonald house for therapy every few weeks since she as born.
Â
Central Illinois Ronald McDonald house volunteer, Kelly Thompson, told WAND " her facial expression when she pulled the plastic off of her sign said it all. She was thrilled and I think she very much feels proud about what she's been able to give back to the house."
Â
Hundreds of kids will be able to enjoy the new playground. Springfield Ronald McDonald house serves more than 350 families each year. Â
