RAMSEY, Ill. (WAND) - Ramsey Jr. High Teacher Kelly Lovelace just received her masters in STEM Education. Now, her students have become masters in all things STEM.

“I actually got my master's degree in STEM education last year so I’ve been trying to implement more STEM activities with my 6th, 7th, and 8th graders students just to give them some experience because there are so many opportunities in the STEM field that we aren’t aware of,”  said Lovelace.

Students like Torrie McDonald have become more familiar with STEM topics, which has opened more opportunities.

“I did an at-home project and then it got judged here at our school, and after that I went to a science fair. Like an actual science fair. So then after that I did make it to the next round, and I got to go to the really big one,” explained McDonald.

Lovelace wants students to begin thinking about their careers now and not wait until the last minute to figure out what they want to do.

“At this age, they probably should start considering what they want to do when they get older. I know students, they get into college, and they don’t like it and they have to switch and that’s time consuming and costly,” said Lovelace.
