Restaurant reopens after new inspection

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A restaurant is back open a week after inspectors found mouse feces and cockroaches in it.

A worker at Clare’s Family Restaurant confirmed the building reopened for business on Tuesday morning. A Macon County Health Department report filed on April 12 says health inspectors gave the business a grade of 53 out of 100, which is seven points lower than the threshold for a passing grade. The department then shut the restaurant down.

Inspectors said in the report that they found walls and part of the ceiling covered in grease, along with insects and broken equipment. They also said they saw a worker eating and drinking while preparing food.

The worker told WAND-TV to speak with a manager Thursday in order to learn more because that person had gone home for the day when the station called. WAND-TV is waiting to confirm what score the restaurant earned in a new inspection.

Closed restaurants need at least an 85 out of 100 score in order to open again.

Clare’s is located on East William Street in Decatur.
