DECATUR, IL- A Decatur man found guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend last month will now likely spent the rest of his life in prison.
Bill Richter was sentenced Monday afternoon to 60 years in prison for murder, plus 15 years due to the possession of a firearm. Court records indicate those counts will be merged. Â Â
A jury convicted Richter last month for plotting to kill his long-time girlfriend Dawn Marquis. Marquis was shot in the head and killed while she sat in her car in the couple's driveway back in August of 2008.
Police say Richter's longtime friend and roommate, Joseph Hoffman, was the one who shot Marquis and that Richter was the one who put him up to it.
Hoffman is in the Macon County Jail awaiting trial.
