DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) —  Food insecurity in Decatur and Macon County appears to be on the rise. The WSOY Community Food Drive is coming at the right time to assist the Salvation Army food pantry.
The Salvation Army food pantry had a monthly average of serving 742 people in 2022. In 2023 the number rose to 773 people a month. So far in 2024 the pantry is seeing 1,135 on average passing through the doors each month.

The WSOY Community Food Drive is scheduled for October 4, 2024 at the Airport Plaza Kroger. You can donate non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation. People will be on hand to assist you from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition to the food pantry the Salvation Army is also feeding individuals in its men’s shelter.
