DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – They served their country dating back to the 1940s. A group of Decatur area veterans was invited to take a free dream flight in a 1940s biplane Wednesday.
Darryl Fisher of Dream Flights is the pilot of the two-seat aircraft.
"It was built between 1940 and 1945 specifically to train pilots in World War II," Fisher told WAND News. "They don’t get to do a lot of cool things now when you’re in your 90s."

The Dream Flights crew are volunteers, and they travel to different cities. In Decatur, they took veterans on flights over the city, which lasted about 15-20 minutes. The veterans were visibly thrilled to be taking part.
Ten veterans took a flight on the aircraft, including a World War II vet who was 101 years old.
