SPRINGFIELD - The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is going to deliver backpacks and school supplies to a Springfield elementary school on August 14.
The school supply drive commemorates a 30-year partnership between Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Springfield's Enos Elementary School. The medical school set a goal to collect enough classroom items to fill 30 student backpacks, and employees at SIU have been purchasing and donating materials during the past month. Following the donation, committee members will take a tour of the new school facility.
The supply drive is among several activities performed by SIU and its employees for Enos students throughout the school year. Other activities include mentoring, hosting field trips and art exhibits, and donating reading materials.
