SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A leader on Springfield’s school board is under fire and recently lost his job.
COUNTRY Financial confirmed with WAND-TV that it has parted ways with Adam Lopez, who serves as vice president of the Springfield board. The company says it fired him in early September.
“We have been made aware of customer complaints against Mr. Lopez and are taking them seriously,” the company said in a statement. “An investigation is ongoing.”
WTAX Radio and the Illinois Times report police are investigating Lopez. He’s facing accusations of financial theft of as much as six figures.
He’s also no longer with the secretary of state’s securities department, the newspaper says.
In a statement sent to WTAX, District 186 leaders said media should ask police for information about Lopez, adding that “the district is not involved in any investigation”.
The radio station also says someone accused Lopez of having a "conflict of interest and lack of accountability" when he organized a Lanphier High School basketball tournament.
