Springfield YMCA Shows Support for Their Local Olympian Ryan Held

Ryan Held has become a household name ever since his shining Olympic moment. His local YMCA in Springfield is showing their support in more ways than one.

They are calling him America’s sweet heart.

"It's really a pleasure to see somebody with his character his drive makes it to this level," Rob Busby Former Coach.

"He's just a good human being he would reach out to the newest member on our team or the most senior person always smiling always takes the time to say hey it was nice to talk to you," Said Cindy Fulgenzi whose Daughter Swam with Ryan.

Ryan Held got his start in swimming at the Springfield YMCA where he took his first swim lesson and began swim team.

"All of Springfield couldn't be more proud of this kid. Me, myself I mean this is a great moment for me for a coach that’s worked with him, I think for all the coaches that have worked with him," Said Busby.

His former team mates are inspired to have had the opportunity to work with him.

"Just seeing someone like that, that I knew personally that can make it that far it's just really enabling," Adam Milling a Former Team Mate of Ryans.

He stole Americas heart when he broke down during the raising of the flag and playing of the national anthem, after his relay team won gold.

"He's an emotional guy he pours everything into his races," Said Busby

His local YMCA wanted to show him support by selling t-shirt with his name on it... and the response has been outstanding.

"It kind of has exploded which is really great we're having people post pictures in their shirts Ryan is seeing all of them and their loving it," Said Cindy Fulgenzi who helped get the t-shirt design and orders started.

All of the proceeds from the shirts are going back to the Y’s strong kids campaign, which helps provide under privileged kids take part in activities like swimming. So maybe one day they, can be just like Ryan Held.
