MT. PULASKI, Ill. (WAND) – Stahl's Furniture, a longtime furniture store in Mt. Pulaski, is going out of business.

The store, which is located at 926 E. McDonald Street, was established by Carl, Frederick and Edwin Stahl in 1947, and has been a fixture in the community since. The store's general manager confirmed with WAND it will close its doors soon, but an official end date has not been set. The store is closing because owner Lewis Stahl says it's time to retire.

"He's built a good reputation," said General Manager Mike Mann. "He's known to carry quality furniture at a low price, and he wants to keep it that way."

Gene and Pattie Quint of Lincoln have been customers of Stahl's for more than 20 years. After a fire destroyed their home about 13 years ago, they re-furnished their entire house with furniture from Stahl's. The couple says they're sad to see the store go.

"It's been a wonderful store," Pattie said. "Our whole house is furnished by them. They've been great with service, and great products."

"If you come to look for a mattress, you've got 20 mattresses," Gene said. "If you come to look for a couch, there's 100 of them. I mean, it's just such a great store."

On Thursday, a liquidation sale will begin at Stahl's, offering major discounts on the store's massive inventory, which includes couches, beds, chairs, clocks, and other items.

"We're known to carry quality furniture, at a very good price, and I look forward to go deplete the inventory very, very quickly," Mann said.
