SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A plan heading to Gov. JB Pritzker's desk could help protect adults, parents and small children who are allergic to diaper ingredients.
The bill requires each package or box of diapers sold in Illinois to include a printed list of all ingredients for consumers.
Sponsors said the Attorney General or state's attorneys could enforce this change and collect civil penalties from companies violating the policy.
"The bill is vital for families to know what is actually going on their kid's bodies, especially diapers that protect such sensitive areas," said Sen. Darby Hills (R-Barrington Hills). "I love the focus on supporting families and one more thing that new parents do not have to worry about when making health decisions."
House Bill 4702 passed out of the Senate on a 54-5 vote Tuesday. The measure previously received a 73-28 vote in the House.Â
"At the end of the day, this is not a burdensome requirement," said Rep. Justin Cochran (D-Des Plaines). "List the materials that are in your diapers on the box they come in. That's not hard. In fact, it's easy, and basic requirements like this are routine in any number of industries and have been for years."
