PLEASANT PLAINS, Ill. (WAND) - Mrs. Monke's class at Farmingdale Elementary has students excited about STEAM!

Fourth graders work with STEAM every day by creating new inventions. Like a group of students who created a toothbrush that can brush both the bottom and top row of your teeth simultaneously.

“The double-brush is a double-sided toothbrush that will clean the top and bottom row of your teeth, and it has U-shaped bristles so it can clean the front and back sides of your teeth.” said fourth grader, Chase Boeker.

Monke says she loves that her students become critical thinkers each time they visit her classroom.

“STEM has actually become a love language of mine for teaching because of the student engagement that those kids have. They come in here and they start to see, I present with problems so they know that engineers start with a problem first and I love that kids even as young as six-years-old know that they can solve that problem.”  stated Monke.

Some students are representing the state of Illinois at a competition later this year with their inventions.
