17-year-old killed, 19-year-old injured in Champaign shooting

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A 17-year-old was killed and a 19-year-old injured in a shooting in Champaign Monday night.

Champaign police were called to the 800 block of S. Mattis Ave. around 6:45 p.m. for a call of shots fired.

Officers found a 17-year-old Champaign boy with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in a parking lot.

Emergency responders began providing aid until the victim could be taken to the hospital, but he died a short time later.

The coroner has identified the teen as Tariq Porter of Champaign.

At about 7 p.m., Champaign police were notified that a second person had arrived by personal transport at the emergency department with a gunshot wound. That person, a 19-year-old man from Champaign, remains hospitalized in stable condition.
