MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A woman who was initially charged with a felony in Coles County after authorities say she stole over $500,000 from a Mattoon dentist has now been federally indicted.Â
According to a charging document from the Coles County State's Attorney, Rebecca Gutierrez was said to have stolen money from Brian Hastings and the Hastings and Havlik Family Dentistry between June 2020 and Sept. 30, 2025.
Gutierrez was charged with two Class X felonies for stealing between $500,000 and $1 million.
Coles County court records showed Gutierrez had pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.Â
However, on Monday, the State filed a motion to have cause dismissed as Gutierrez has been federally indicted. A pre-trial date that had been set for Monday has been vacated.Â
