This comes as Champaign parents are calling on the Unit 4 Board of Education to support Roundtree, and his assistant principal. Parents held a rally before the board meeting in February. They are concerned Superintendent Dr. Shelia Boozer is attempting to remove Roundtree because he criticized the district's handling of a September shooting at Booker T. Washington.
WAND News had reached out to Unit 4 before the rally. A district spokeswoman released the following statement:
"Champaign Unit 4 Schools typically does not comment on personnel matters; however, we strongly caution our families, staff, students, and community members not to be influenced by social media posts or petitions that are based on rumors and inaccurate or incomplete information.
"We want to assure everyone that our school system remains committed to providing the best educational experiences for all of our students."
WAND News will continue to following this developing story.
