Woman on a scooter hit and killed by vehicle in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A woman riding a kick scooter was hit and killed by a vehicle in Champaign Monday night. 

Champaign police were called to the intersection of Neil St. and Marketview Dr. at 9:53 p.m. for a crash. 

A vehicle had hit a 24-year-old Champaign woman who was riding a kick scooter. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. 

Police said the woman was going eastbound on Marketview Dr. and crossed Neil St. while the light was red. She was hit by a vehicle going northbound. 

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and was interviewed by police. 

Officers are continuing to investigate and gather video footage from the surrounding area. Any resident or business in the area with exterior camera systems is asked to notify the police if they may have captured the crash. 

No citations have been issued at this time.
