CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The list of players who will sit-out the 2025 Music City Bowl for Illinois football is rather short, much to the joy of head coach Bret Bielema.

During a media conference this past Saturday, Coach B revealed that offensive lineman JC Davis would join outside linebacker Gabe Jacas in declaring for the NFL Draft. The duo both earned All-Big Ten first team nominations for their outstanding efforts propelling the team to success this season.

Defensive back Matthew Bailey will miss the bowl game with a shoulder injury that requires surgery. Following the season he can declare for the NFL draft or opt for a return for his senior season.

Beyond other players coping with other injuries, like Xavier Scott who's been sidelined most of the season, the rest of the roster is ready to take the field in Nashville.

"It's a blessing to even have done the things that we've done already," said senior DB Miles Scott. "Another win is just another great thing."

Following the regular season finale, fans questioned if quarterback Luke Altmyer would wear the orange and blue one last time. He answered with a simple message on his "X" account.

"I'd regret it if I didn't go out there and, you know, play ball - do the thing that I've always wanted to do," Altmyer said. "I remember as a kid being a Mississippi state fan, I grew up going to the Music City Bowl. I think in 2011 [I] sat in those stands wanted to be out there on the field and so this is what I've always dreamed of doing."

For many players it will be their last ride before they enter the next phases of their careers, whether that be in football or another profession. Players like offensive lineman Josh Kreutz say that going out with a final victory, indicating all they've helped build in the program, plays a big role in so many players opting in to playing.

"Another win is super important," Kreutz said. "When's the last time Illinois won back-to-back bowl games? 2011? So it's been a while and if we can get that done, it would mean a lot to me and it would mean a lot to this state, hopefully this program."

Kickoff for the Music City Bowl is set for 4:30pm on December 30.
