Meridian High School to begin wrestling program in '26-'27 school year

MACON, Ill. (WAND) - The Meridian High School athletic department is seeking interest in a head coach to begin a wrestling program.

In a Facebook post on the school's page, Superintendent Shane Gordon approved the job announcement as the Hawks hope to have a program effective during the 2026-27 school year.

Applications including resumes and letters of interest are being directed toward Athletic Director Brian Britton.

Meridian is one of several schools who are becoming involved in the wrestling community and offering it as one of their many sports. In March of 2025, the St. Teresa board of directors approved the addition of boys' and girls' wrestling for the 2025-26 calendar, citing that it gives student-athletes another option during the winter sports season.
