DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The hot weather of late will slowly abate this holiday weekend into next week. That said, humidity will still be a big factor. Around 70+ degree dewpoints will dip back into the 60s by early next week, but that's still no picnic. Â
As we look back at Independence Day over the years, the hottest day, with temperatures peaking generally 102-105, was back in 1936. It won't be that hot this year, but FeelsLike temperatures may briefly hit 100 before the onset of thunderstorms, or at least in between storms. Speaking of thunderstorms, about a third of the past July 4th holidays have had a thunderstorm.
Many of us will fall into that category this year. There may even be isolated wind/hail issues. About a third of the time, we also have temperatures peaking in the 90s. That's not all that crazy, as the average high temperature is 85. Â
Stay sweaty, stay safe and stay weather-aware. Happy Birthday America!
