DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Snow is transitioning to light rain or drizzle quickly this evening. The Illinois/Indiana border will be last to see the transition. Nonetheless, the worst of the storm as far as accumulation is concerned, is over.
That said, we are not out of the woods. Temperatures are already, or will soon be, above freezing into the wee hours of Sunday morning. Snow is compacting and absorbing the light rain/drizzle, making it feel like shoveling concrete! The only good news about the compacting snow is that recent and on-going gusty winds won't have the same blowing/drifting capability as earlier in the day.
Temperatures will slide back down below freezing as the storm moves farther away as daybreak rolls around. If you cleared your driveway and/or sidewalk, a coating of rock salt will be a great idea. Roads will also have to be treated to prevent slush from freezing.
Wait! We're not done yet. Another storm, behaving like a clipper (fast-moving), will arrive Monday afternoon and night with a much smaller accumulation.
Be safe, be weather-aware, and stay tuned for more.
