Older couple, walking, love, marriage

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - Champaign-Urbana is celebrating Active Aging Week October 6-12.

The annual celebration promotes healthy aging and community connection for adults aged 50 and older.

The effort is led by the Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana steering committee in partnership with community organizations and local businesses.

Active Aging Week first launched by the International Council on Active Aging in 2003. This is the 22nd year.

Community Program Manager at Urbana Park District Janet Soesbe said, "Active Aging Week is about celebrating all the ways older adults can thrive in our community. From fitness programs and art workshops to community discussions and outdoor activities, we want to highlight that aging well means staying connected, curious, and active."
