DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Eisenhower High School Band is reaching out to the community to help them fundraise for what they're calling a "once in a lifetime" opportunity.

The band was invited to perform at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in December 2026 with Eastern Illinois University's marching band as a part of the Mega Marching Band.

Band Director Jennifer Morrow has been teaching for 13 years, and she said being able to provide an opportunity like this has always been a dream of hers. Now, she's making that dream a reality.

"I've never even been to Hawaii. Most of these kids haven't been to Hawaii. Some of the kids haven't left the state. So it's just a big deal to get on an airplane for the first time, see the beach for the first time," Morrow said.

It means that the Marching Panthers  32 strong  will get a rare opportunity, one only available to a few other schools in Illinois.

Sophomore student and clarinet player Ellie Miller said it's something that holds so much value to the students in the band.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And it's such an amazing thing, especially at our age, to be able to experience," Miller said.

To make the dream a reality, the school is hosting a donation fundraiser to help cover trip expenses and give as many children as possible the chance to go.

Online donations can be sent through the band's Omella fundraiser site.

More information on the fundraiser and how to send check donations can be found on the Eisenhower High School Bands Facebook page.
