DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Fischer Theatre will celebrate the career of Oscar-winning actor and Danville native Gene Hackman with a two-day film festival in August.
"FischerFest: The Cinematic Legacy of Gene Hackman" will showcase five of Hackman's most iconic films Saturday, Aug. 16, and Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Aug. 16 lineup will include "Bonnie and Clyde," "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven."
The Aug. 17 lineup will feature "Crimson Tide" and "The Royal Tenenbaums."
Additionally, the festival will host a special "Dessert and Discussion" on Aug. 17 with film critic Chuck Koplinski leading the discussion.
Norah's Smokehouse, a local food truck, will be on-site both days for attendees to enjoy.
Local artist Katie Weston will create a live, date-stamped portrait of Hackman at the event, and a date-stamped portrait of the Theatre, which will be available for silent auction.
Interim Fischer Theatre Director Ashton Greer said she is "thrilled" to celebrate Hackman's legendary career in his hometown.
“This festival is more than a film event. It’s a tribute to a man who helped put Danville on the cinematic map. And we hope this is the first of many events like this one,” Greer said in a statement.
Tickets are available through the Fischer Theatre's website.
