CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Prairie Fruits Farm announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a $200,000 grant to expand agritourism in the Champaign-Urbana area.
The grant, through the Tourism Attractions Grant Program, is part of a $1.7 million investment to support a dozen local tourism spots across the state.Â
Prairie Fruits said in a Sept. 2 press release that the grant will fund the construction of a new visitor and education center, culinary workshops and other opportunities, including improvements to the parking lot and an educational walking path around the lake.Â
The release added that the new center will allow the farm to host more tours, cheesemaking workshops, cooking classes and various conservation events.
“This investment allows us to create an engaging and accessible gateway to the farm, where visitors can experience regenerative agriculture and local food in action," said Prairie Fruits Farms Co-owner Lauren Brokish in a statement.Â
