SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield Elks Lodge is preparing to host its annual Christmas food distribution program.
On Saturday, December 20, the Elks Lodge will host the Eddy Fisher Memorial Christmas Food Basket Program to provide food for needy families.
Members will pack and deliver food baskets to about 100 families.
The Elks Lodge has partnered with Humphries Market to purchase food with funds raised by members of Springfield Elks Lodge #158.
“Our members have been extremely generous this year as always and will donate their time as we fill and deliver this food to our community” said Ali Mikles, chair of the event. “Any additional funds raised over our food basket costs will be donated to local charities."
The Elks, a nationwide fraternal and charitable organization, has been active in community service in Springfield for over 120 years.
The program was named to honor Eddy Fisher, a past president of the Springfield Elks Lodge and chairman of the event for many years.
Elk members and volunteers will begin the process of filling the food boxes for local families at 9 a.m., December 20, and members will deliver them to local families immediately after.
