TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Taylorville Memorial Hospital is holding a "Frosty Footsteps" walking challenge.Â
The challenge runs January 1-31.Â
Walkers can log their miles at the Christian County YMCA. The YMCA will be allowing non-members to use their track during January free of charge for the challenge.
Participants can track cumulative miles using the free Pacer app. You can use your phone or sync a smartwatch to log steps. Logging 100 miles earns registered participants a special "Frosty Footsteps" T-shirt.Â
Aspen Evrley, 44, of Taylorville, walked more than 400 miles during the May Stride to Thrive walking challenge. She finished third of all participants. "What I appreciate most about the challenge is how it brings everyone together with a shared goal," Evrley said. "It's a great reminder to stay active, helps keep me accountable and is a friendly competition that makes it even more motivating. It's been a fun way to build healthy habits without feeling like a chore."Â
Nearly 200 walkers participated in two separate TMH walking challenges in 2025.Â
The walking challenges came as a result of heart disease and stroke being selected as a priority health need in the 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment.Â
