URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Urbana announced that the municipal electric aggregation supply contract with Constellation has expired. As a result, residents will return to Basic Generation Service through Ameren since the City did not receive favorable pricing for a new contract.

The City plans to pursue aggregated pricing again in the spring.

Residents have several options: they can remain on Basic Generation Service, subscribe to community solar, or choose their own retail electric supplier.

If residents stay on Basic Generation Service for two billing cycles, they will be locked in for another 10 months. Additionally, those who enter a retail contract in the spring will not be automatically enrolled in future aggregation attempts.

Municipal electric aggregation allows for bulk purchasing of electricity, with automatic enrollment for eligible accounts at the start of each contract. Residents have the option to opt out if they choose.

More information is available at the City’s website.
