DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Sangamon County Coroner confirmed a second person has died following a suspected DUI crash in Decatur.

The coroner identified the man who died after a car hit him and a woman while they were walking Thursday night.

Decatur police said 38-year-old Candace Wilt and the man, later identified as 29-year-old Christopher Cox, were walking along the 1500 block of W. Main Street in the city's West End neighborhood. Just before 10 p.m., officers said a car traveling westbound crossed the opposite lane of traffic and hit the two walking on the far sidewalk.

Wilt died at the scene. First responders took Cox to Springfield Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Sangamon County Coroner said in an Aug. 25 press release that Cox died from multiple blunt force injuries Sunday afternoon. 

Officers arrested Issaih Flagg in connection with the crash. They said his license had been suspended for multiple reasons before the crash. His BAC results are still pending. Flagg faces preliminary charges of aggravated DUI causing death, aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, aggravated DUI with a suspended license, and driving with a suspended license.

The incident is still under investigation.
